A Study on the Needle Biopsy of the Kidney

Abstract
|

|
An experimental study on the needle biopsy of the canine kidney was performed to evaluate the amount of the specimen per puncture, success rate of puncture and the number of glomeruli per specimen as well as the extent of injury by renal puncture.
The needles of Vim-Silverman and Menghini were used.
Some clinical experience on the needle biopsy was also gained in various renal diseases including a renal allograft.
The results are follows.
1. The technique using Vim-Silverman needle showed better results in obtaining ample tissue amount and positive puncture rate than in that of Menghini, particularly with the method of cannular rotation during the puncture.
2. Clinical renal biopsy was performed without difficulty. and no significant complications encountered.
